Irvine Police Department becomes first in the nation with Tesla Cybertruck.
Irvine, Calif. — The Irvine Police Department has officially become the first law enforcement agency in the U.S. to add a Tesla Cybertruck to its fleet. The unveiling, held on Tuesday, was led by Police Chief Michael Kent, who expressed pride in the department’s innovative approach to policing.
“I’m very proud to say that we’re the first police department in the country to have this in its fleet,” Kent said at the ceremony.
The futuristic Cybertruck will play a central role in the department’s Drug Abuse Resistance and Education (D.A.R.E.) program, a long-standing initiative aimed at educating youth on the dangers of drug abuse. Kent emphasized the vehicle’s ability to capture public interest, particularly among car enthusiasts.
“Whether it’s a lowered or raised truck, a PT Cruiser or a Cybertruck, these vehicles draw a crowd with custom graphics and features that pique the curiosity of car enthusiasts of all ages,” he said.
Officer Alex Mendoza will serve as the primary driver of the Cybertruck, using the vehicle to further the department’s outreach efforts in schools and at community events.
