House records show Min backed a failed $3.3 billion fiscal 2027 aid cutoff while supporting Iron Dome assistance.
Rep. Dave Min, D-Calif., drew criticism Friday over remarks he made Wednesday at a Jewish Federation of Orange County town hall in Irvine, where 47th District candidates were invited separately to address Israel, antisemitism and local Jewish voters’ concerns. The backlash centered partly on Min’s reply after an attendee said he did not feel safe voting for him.
“I am not here for your vote,” Min said, according to a clip California GOP Jewish engagement chair Elizabeth Barcohana included in an X post.
Barcohana criticized Min’s tone and his positions on Trump administration pressure against universities accused of failing to protect Jewish students, U.S. weapons assistance to Israel and a two-state solution.
“My biggest takeaway is that Min’s positions (and arrogance about them) SHOULD BE disqualifying for Jewish voters in his OC District, as well as for any institutional support from our community’s legacy organizations,” Barcohana said.
Barcohana also accused Min of describing the administration’s university actions as weaponized antisemitism and repeatedly referring to Israel’s government as Netanyahu’s regime. Her post included a 91-second video, but a full recording was not linked in the post or the public event listing Saturday.
Min’s July vote would have barred money in the fiscal 2027 State Department appropriations bill from being used for Israel and reduced foreign military financing by $3.3 billion. The measure failed 104-314. Min also co-sponsored H.R. 3565, which restricts transfers of specified offensive weapons.
Min defended maintaining defensive assistance in his official statement.
“I will always stand for the right of Israel to exist and to defend itself, and I will be a staunch vote for the provision of defensive armaments, including components for the Iron Dome, to Israel – which are not affected by this amendment,” Min said.
