Laguna Niguel City Council candidate Stephanie Oddo pushed the crowd to vote on abortion in November.
Multiple Democratic candidates for public office rallied the San Clemente community in a pro-abortion rally on Aug. 10. The rally took place near the San Clemente Pier entrance, where Laguna Niguel City Council Democratic candidate Stephanie Oddo said she attended to protect a woman’s right to an abortion.
“I stand with women,” Oddo tweeted. “A woman’s decision to have an abortion is between her and her doctor only. What we have seen in San Clemente shows that local government matters. Women’s rights are on the ballot this November – vote!”
Specifically, Oddo and other Democratic candidates like current City Councilmember and 74th Assembly District candidate Chris Duncan criticized the recently struck down “Sanctuary for Life” resolution that was proposed in the city. This resolution would have condemned “voluntary aboriton practices.”
“The issue is still very alive, and so it was still pertinent to have a crowd of peaceful, energetic residents here to stand up and voice their support for leaving these critical decisions for women in the hands of women,” Duncan said.
Oddo reiterated Duncan’s message that women ought to choose what they do with their bodies, not a local or federal government.
“Please don’t forget about us at the city level,” said Oddo. “We are fighting for you; we’re the ones on the ground, we are the ones going door to door.”
She also said that the issue is not dead while thanking the pro-choice men in attendance. She stressed the importance that abortion rights were on the ballot, and people had to vote with that in mind this November.
