Documents reveal disturbing use of public funds to support questionable activities targeting children.
San Diego Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer, a prominent Democrat and vice chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, has come under fire for using nearly $4,000 in taxpayer money to support left-leaning organizations promoting LGBT ideology towards children. Information obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request has uncovered a troubling pattern of financial support directed towards San Diego Pride events, known for exposing children to explicit and inappropriate content.
According to the documents, Lawson-Remer allocated $1,500 of public funds in February 2023 to cover District 3’s registration for the San Diego Pride Parade, which is notorious for its raunchy displays and sexually charged atmosphere. The event, attended by all ages (and youth for free), raises concerns about the exposure of young children to overtly sexual content under the guise of inclusivity.
In May 2023, Lawson-Remer further diverted $820 for the San Diego Pride Festival Exhibitor Registration, along with a $150 deposit. These events are not just parades but are rife with explicit displays that many consider unsuitable for young audiences. The San Diego Pride Festival, in particular, is known for its highly sexualized performances and exhibitions, making it an inappropriate environment for children.
In July 2023, Lawson-Remer reportedly spent another $105 on wristbands for District 3’s participation in the San Diego Pride Festival. These wristbands grant access to areas where children are exposed to adult themes, further raising concerns about the supervisor’s judgment and priorities.
Lawson-Remer, who identifies as “genderqueer/non-binary pansexual,” has been a vocal advocate for the local LGBT community, often using her position to promote Pride-related activities. In June, she and Chairwoman Nora Vargas launched Pride Month with a public event celebrating the “LGBTQIA+” community.
“We have been fighting for LGBTQ+ rights and equality, and I am proud of the progress we’ve made,” Lawson-Remer stated. “Tonight’s activities are more than a celebration; they are a reminder that we must continue defending our values and fight back against those who try to eliminate our constitutionally protected rights. I’m proud to serve a County that values and uplifts the voices of LGBTQ+ individuals.”
While Lawson-Remer champions these causes, the question remains: Is it appropriate to use taxpayer money to support events that many believe are unsuitable for children?
