Rex Orange County Charged with Six Counts of Sexual Assault

The Rising British Artist “is shocked by the Allegations.”

Alexander O’Connor aka Rex Orange County has pled not guilty to allegations of sexual assault and has been released on bail.

Orange County got his name from a past teacher who referred to him as “OC” in reference to the initials of his surname. A past student of The BRIT School of Performing and Creative Arts in the UK, the 24-year-old musician’s rise to prominence began when he caught the attention of American rapper Tyler, and the two collaborated on the rapper’s album Flower Boy.

His music has been described as R&B to a blend of jazz, hip hop and pop.

On Oct. 10, 2022, Orange County was charged with six counts of sexual assault and appeared at the Southwark Crown Court where he pled not guilty. The assaults are alleged to have all occurred over a two-day period in June 2021. The woman has accused Orange County of sexual assualt on June 1 at London’s West End, then again in a taxi. She also alleges three sexual assaults took place on June 2, at his Nottinghill Hill home.

The allegations caused the cancellation of his European, New Zealand and Australian Tours.

A representative for Orange County stated that he “is shocked by the allegations which he denies and looks forward to clearing his name in court.”

The British artist will stand trial on January 3, 2023.
